How to Find Inspiration for Painting?

My last painting was really good, but now I'm struggling to find new inspiration. Nothing around my house is interesting. There's a foot of snow on the ground, so outside isn't interesting. I really love art, but I think way too much about my next project. How can I find inspiration and stop thinking about it over and over again?

Take a look at old family photos, magazines, books even tv especially Nat Geo. Who said you have to find inspiration outside yourself. Why not paint how you feel? Artists know that a truly great painting is one in which the artist is able to convey how he feels about the subject not how it looks. So if you are not moved by a subject you should not paint it. Think about what you love, hate, fear, envy and then paint it.

inspiration can come in many forms. it can be from a song, a poem, a movie, other paintings, the world around you, or even from something as simple as a quote. for me, i look at paintings i like and draw inspiration from those. sometimes i combine those with ideas from music i like. and the best advice i have is when you stop looking hard for it, that's when true inspiration blossoms.

I hope you keep a sketch book. That is the best way to get inspiration when you need it. I often will go through a sketch book and find something I haven't used before or see something I can say something different about. Another thing is to go outside in the snow and lake a long view or a close view of something you see. Often we only look at the mid ground and ignore what's closer and what's farther away.
