What paint is best for wall murals?

What kind of paint will be good for large (wall size) murals?

  • Answer:

I use flat latex wall paint for the large areas, then do the rest with everyday craft paint such as Anita's or Americana acrylic paints. They dry pretty quickly and are a little hard to blend so sometimes you need to add some clear glaze to it to extend the amount of time that it stays workable. You can use flat or glossy paint for different effects. Try to estimate how many bottles you need of each before you begin to be sure that your colors match, but they are pretty cheap so if you have too much it is no big deal.

Tempera or acrylic paint.

My son paints murals professionally and uses plain and simple emulsion paint but you must overspray the finished job with professional varnish as used by artists.

acrylics...some use oils, but acrylics is the best. unless you want to do a fresco, then you must have experience in the art of plaster also, and egg-tempra is recommended. painting on fresh plaster is indeed a challenge.
