What artists use their own experiences in their work?

  • for fashion and textiles our theme is 'experiences, meetings and encounters' and i was just wondering what artists/photographers ect use their own life experiences in their work. i know frida kahlo does and thats all i've got so far! also, if you know any comic/illustrators like roy lichtenstein that would help too!

  • Answer:

leonid afremov, expressists and impressionists if you look at the backgrounds of the artsists and the pieces of work then you can see clearly. barbara hepworth- uses holy trinity as she gave triplets away etc henry moore

Off the top of my head: Mark Bradford, Kehinde Whiley, Cindy Sherman, Charles LeDray, Felix Gonzalez Torres...I would say all of these artists use their own experiences in terms of their own views on gender roles, socioeconomic status, race, etc. Most importantly, all of these artists are CONTEMPORARY.

Hi, im studying the same. I'm using a holiday from last year as my focus and I'm looking at Carol Naylor (i think she is mentioned in the exam booklet), Jan Beaney, jeannette appleton (but for technique) if you look through the exam booklet (not just the textiles section) their are many artists mentioned through out, hope this helps! and out of interest what is your starting point????
