Do you like art?

Do people ever look at your art work like it's weird, and like it's below their level?

  • I paint abstract/surrealism together as a fusion, and like most of the younger crowd(teens and young adults) seem to like my art work, but like the older group look at it like it's not even art. I hate it, because like I feel like I'll never find that many older men and women that respect my weird vision, and I feel like they just expect me to paint realistic things, like plain scenery, and just things that don't really catch my interest as an artist. Not that I dont really appreciate it, because I do think it's beautiful, but still not my style lol!

  • Answer:

you get these looks and responses from older people because they cannot see a connection between Abstraction and Surrealism, the youth generation accept the new much more readily because they have tendencies to question and think outside the box as it were. A bg statement I know but teaching and understanding art has changed enormously in the last twenty years even so older people will obviously consider art as seeming more formal. To people like me who teach and practise contemporary art ideas my comment is you must underpin why you seek to paint this way, try and blur the boundaries between Abstract and Surrealism, you must go further than just liking what you do you must investigate, develop and understand a reasoning and methodologyy in your art, when this happens you will have something truly unique for everyone to see.

"You can make some people happy some of the time, but, not all the people all of the time." That pretty much sums it up. Concentrate on the patrons who DO like your work. They are important.

Your art work will expand and grow as you do and so will the amount of people that can appreciate it. unfortunately the young crowd tends to follow the young artist and the "grown up" crowd the older artists. But as I said one thing that you have is young people that already like what you do and later in life you will still have them but also the attention of the older crowd. I hope that makes sense.....lol

people are stupid. People without artistic vision will never appreciate anything but landscapes. I have the same problem you do. But my dad, (late fifties, former artist) loves my work. My mom, (mid fifties, artistic retard) just asks me why it's good. People who can see the same type of thing you do will like it. (if you're any good, I don't really know)
