What paint can I use on guitar?

What paint to use when painting an acoustic guitar?

  • I'm looking for a type of paint I should use in painting an acoustic guitar that I still plan on using. There are some chips towards the bottom of the body that I'd like to repair, and also I wouldn't mind painting some sort of design around the bottom of the guitar. Thanks!

Hello there, Refinishing a guitar is a difficult job. It takes a lot of work to get a decent job. A bad paint job can affect the tone of the guitar. With an acoustic, that is even more so than with an electric guitar. It may be cheaper and easier to fix the chips than to refinish the entire guitar In general, automotive paints were used on guitars (at least electric guitars). Lacquer produces a good tone. Reranch is an on-line supplier of nitrocelluloise lacquer. They also have a lot of information about painting guitars. You might find some guidance there. http://www.reranch.com/101a.htm#final%20polishing Later,
