What is that weird anime?

Why am I soo embarassed to like/draw anime?

  • Well here's my story... My mom is a painter/hair stylist/ ex model. So you can imagine how much I love the arts. As a child I would paint, sculpt, and draw (mostly draw) manyy things.. then around age nine I got REALLLY into anime. I had moved away from my old snobby neighborhood to a new small town around 2 hours away from the old one .I was getting better and better.. and was very talented for a nine year old girl. Well I had this friend, she was two years older then me at the time. She was 11 and in middle school still in the snobby neighborhood. She told me that drawing and ecspecially anime is weird. So I got embarrased and stopped for good. I started focousing on hair and makeup and was wearing a full face of it by the time I was 11. I was really good at it.. and now I am loooking to pursue a career in it. I am 16 years old and recently I have been secretly drawing anime. Back when I went to highschool (around a year ago.. im homeschooled now for other reasons.) I was the long blonde haired girl, blue eyes, very styleish, and deffinately not someone you would call an anime kid. When I draw anime.. I sometimes stop and get embarrassed because I think of all the obnoxious, weird, greasy kids from anime club and I feel ashamed. It's not the anime that makes them that way.. it's just them being weird. But people who are weird like that usually openly talk about how they're obsessed with anime.. and so people think.. wtf anime is weird.. O_o. And I know people would be shocked and weirded out if I told them I like it. And you know what's weird... even when I commented on how I liked a girl's anime drawing in class... people got all weirded out and thought I was just messing with her.. Then she closed her notebook and stared into the distance.. I felt soo bad because I was actually complimenting her. So I talked to her after class and told her I really meant it. She invited me over to her house after school to hang out, and then afterwards when i got home.. I felt soo weird. I felt so rude that I was embarrased to be around her... I never voiced it to anyone, I just felt that way. When people asked me about it, I said she was sweet. But i felt weird. WHY AM I SUCHA *****? D: and why is it soo bad when people like something different and even beautiful..? Why am I soo embarrased? WHY AM I UP THIS EARLY IN THE MORNING THINKING ABOUT THIS??? D:

    Hi , ahem - that is somehow offensive to me. Because i like anime and like drawing them D: Aaaand that doesn't make me weird, it just shows that im talented in drawing UNLIKE stupid kids that game all day, they have no social life ( no offence ) buut , im not saying that gaming is bad, it's just better to have a useful talent then ... you know . There's nothing to be embarrassed about, its just drawing? Like gosh, there's different types of drawing why not laugh at popart? it's nowhere near as good as anime . And hello ? The so called " obnoxious, weird, greasy " from the " anime club " their probably just too talented for those mere mortals that cant draw for sh*t . Theres nothing to be ashamed about. Although you dont have the looks to be an anime lover/liker/whatever , so what? Problem? Heey, you know what , best strategy IGNORE those little comments that go flying around, the more friends you make then more people would try to become your friend. So at first if no one is into anime and call it gay tell them - you cant anime for sh*t, so i wouldn't be talking. I just remembered isn't that kinda racist saying anime is gay? since its from asia and all? lol o.O Think it as , WHAT IF you become or are popular people would try to take an interest in the things you like, for instance anime . So you should never be ashamed nor embarrassed about your own interests unless you lack self confidence or self esteem . Hope this helps, sorry if its a little off track or ragey :) .

Don't be ashamed. Art is self-expression after all, and if you really love drawing anime and feel happy doing it, then nothing should stop you. Let your pursuit of happiness be pure and without others' influence in today's social culture or else you'll never be happy :') Keep your heart and mind open to new forms of self-expression and you'll soon realize that with passion, nothing else matters.

You'll be unhappy on this earth. If you keep following people than your own heart. I am college student, graphic designer and visual artist. I love anime. You could start making webcomic to increase product. I once know a person, who want to become a model. Her friend told her, "You too short." But, the truth is- her friend want to be like her.Throw away her dream and became a streetwalker. Cause all her life, she let people boss her dreams and goal. You need to overcome your fear and low esteem. Matter of fact. If you planning to become an artist. Half of your clients will request anime, furry, hentai, real life, everything. The reason you're ashame. You want to fit in and carve for attention for your art to shine. But anime is too childish for you. You don't need to be wide open about your love for anime.

I actually know where your coming from... in elementary school and middle school I was made fun of all the time because I like anime and drew anime so I eventually stopped drawing at school BUT during my freshman year at high school I met many people who love it and don't care what other people think and that inspired me to be an open anime fan again... my advice to you is to show it proudly because if your friends make fun of you their not your friends you need to know if they like you not who you pretend to be. I suggest talking to that girl again because it seems that she was someone who would make a great friend but you completely rejected the idea because you were embarrassed. Not ever anime fan is weird or strange, many of them are fun. I hope you decide to be a more open person or in the long run you feel miserable and rejected by every one because one day, no matter what, people are gonna find out so you might as well tell everyone yourself
