Which Is a better career Graphic design or Web Design?
-
I am going to start college and I was going to do graphic design but Im not much of a good drawer. does it mostly involve drawing? I was also wondering which career makes more. I would like to hear from someone who is a graphic or web designer or knows someone who is. THANKS :)

Answer:
Nearly all graphic design these days is done digitally. Same is true of web. Web design **really does** require a knowledge of the technical restrictions of web development. In my line of work we often get crap from print designers who think their work is golden because it's an "online brochure." "Don't trouble me with the details, I'm the designer, you work out the technical stuff." The end result is you get a web site that other web developer scoff at because it so abhorrently goes against the principles of good web development. So to be a really **good** web designer, you need to understand both, how print media is different than web media. To answer the question, unless you're lucky enough to get a foot in a huge agency, as a graphic designer you'll wind up doing a lot of production work with very little reward. In the print industry, the work is consistent; in advertising, it's brutal and volatile - you may be the company big dog one day and out of a job the next. Web design is a little more fluid, but the same thing applies: unless you get a foot in a big agency, you'll be doing a lot of designs for someone else for nowhere near as much as you'd expect. However, I will say this: web development will show a much longer lifespan than graphic design in print. I feel like GD's days, at least in print media, are numbered.

These are both great careers i'm studying to be a Graphic Designer so far the it's really not that hard. i wouldn't worry about the hand drawing stuff thus far there's always a way to make it look like you know what you're doing. I think web designers make a little more money than graphic designers.

GD can include both software and hand drawing. You'll get good at hand drawing with practice. I'm not in it, but I've taken some classes.

I would have to say graphic design has much more job security then web design, because it can cross over into so many other areas of I.T.

graphic design can fall in the same genre as a web designer too. but you can do both
