How To Draw And Paint?

Is it possible to be taught how to draw and paint quite well?

  • people say you have it or you don't, they say that about math as well but i know math can be taught with effort. I'm asking because in the past i've been able to draw really well but also not able to draw well. Normally i draw well when I'm kinda doodling from my own imagination being asked to draw specific things based on observing is more difficult. I was looking at my GCSE Art portfolio its full of drawings with 9,10/10 's and 5,6/10's the high ones being when i doodled and low ones when i had to draw something they asked to mechanistic structures

    When doodling your have cut the middle man, your brain. Brains are filled with stereotypes, that hurts drawings done by observation. Doodling takes no practice, a baby can doodle. However drawing from observation takes skill, it comes from practice. You have to constantly draw what you see, not count on you're brain to "fill in the blanks". Learn about light, shapes, perspective, etc. it helps. good luck and don't count on your brain so much it doesn't know everything like it tells you.

I started from doodling when I was kid, or when I was younger. I wanted to get better so I don't try to stick to my old methods. Use references, take a drawing class if you can and always be a student of the art.

If learning drawing and painting was not possible then lots of people who teach painting and drawing would be out of business.
