Difference between architectural drafter and a architect?

  • Whats the difference between a architectural drafter and a architect? they have way different pay scales and i was wondering ..... or you have to become a architectural drafter first then to be come a architect?

  • Answer:

There is little education needed to be a draftsman. They are the people who develop the official documents and drawings needed for the design. However, they have no say in overall design or the design process (because they are not licensed). An architect has to have a degree in architecture from an accredited school and must have completed the IDP points and passed the tests to be licensed for that state. It's a lengthy process, but it pays off as in salary. They make MUCH more than a draftsman. I'm in the middle of my five year program.
