How To Find Draw Lessons?

Do you think nine hours of lessons from a professional artist would help me draw manga/anime?

  • He specializes in Cartoons and anime/manga. It's costing me 150 dollars for 6 lessons, all one and a half hours long. I'm almost sure i'll learn enough to start drawing them well in those six lessons(spread out over a month with time inbetween to practice). Basically what i'm asking is this- Based on your own experience, do you think this will help me a lot? (How long did it take you to learn how to draw anime? Did you have any help/lessons?)

  • Answer:

I think learning the fundamentals from a pro might be helpful. Not entirely necessary, but helpful. Will you be great afterwards? No. Will you have the tools you need to become great? Depends on if he's as good of a teacher as he is an artist.

It only took me a month to learn how to draw anime and manga when I was 12. I would study anime and manga books while I drew, because I would look at the picture, and then draw what I would see. I also printed out lots of drawing tutorials, like samples of anime/manga eyes, heads, clothes, hair, etc. It helped me a lot without costing a single penny. (Except when I would by inking and art markers for my more professional anime and manga drawings.) So no, I did not have any lessons, because I taught myself. If I were you, I would skip the lessons, because there are many things online that can really help you! And you don't have to pay $150 for it. But if you feel like that wouldn't help you and you are insisting that you take the class, then okay, go ahead. -Cassie :)

I would spend my money on books, they are a lot cheaper and you don't have to be rushed to learn.

This is my experience since 9 years ago. I'm only 15 but please listen through. I do think that having a teacher teach you is a very good way to learn manga and anime quicker than just teaching yourself. Frankly, manga and anime stretches far beyond just characters. There's perspective, anatomy, lighting effects, shading, ETC! But basically what I want to make sure is that your teacher is strict. A strict teacher means that they really do care about how you are improving. They'll be very straightforward about your mistakes and give you hints about correcting it- not just giving you the answers. Though your lessons are pretty short. It is worth a try. I had very little help learning manga. Recently the only little help I got were tutorials made by online friends in DA. Here's one of my friends I'm grateful to: fluffyofdeath.deviantart.com She helped me out with her coloring tutorials so make sure you see her page! (My parents won't let me log into DA or any other sites beside Yahoo based sites since I have internet addiction) But yea...it took me nine years to get to where I am and I'm still improving and I still suck at it. So I'm advising you to make good use of this professional artist's help. And maybe your time will be shorter and your skill will be sharper than just studying by yourself. Good Luck!!
