What are deep drawing defects?

Help with drawing people?

  • I've been told that I am quite good at drawing and got a good grade at school... The things is, I am rubbish at drawing people, every time I try to draw somebody, it looks nothing like them....I don't know why I am rubbish at drawing people, but am good at drawing animals and other things... What can I do to become better at drawing people?? I know you have to keep practicing and that you can't just get better by being told how to draw... but are there any websites with tips on how to draw people??... Oh and there are no places where I can study drawing as the only art courses around where I live are art and design classes where you have to also make sculptures, clothes and paint, I am only interested in drawing.... And also I wouldn't be able to travel further away to do a course...

Well it seems everyone on here has given you pretty good advice, so I won't repeat them, but I have a cool trick also. If you are drawing a person and you can't seem to figure out what is wrong, take the picture and look at it in a mirror. It will show the mistakes you didn't even know were there. Drawing people is my favorite thing to do, and I have been doing it for for fourteen years, but not until recently could I actually draw a likeness of someone. Another tip, pay big attention to the shadows. Sometimes just drawing the shadows will force the other features to come into play.

i know this sounds terrible, i was compleatley opposed to it at first . but read the book 'drawing on the right side of the brain' . i hated the idea of reading art from a book, but i tried it anyways . it was amazing, i learned how to draw faces perfectly . it can be found in borders in the art section .

I'm an artist also, among other things, and I had this problem years ago. My uncle, whom I followed artistically, taught me a cool trick. This actually works on just about anything. Don't look at your subject as what it is, rather the lines and that's it. Take a picture of a person and turn it upside down. It won't look like a pic of a person, just random shapes. Draw what u see and when you are finished turn your picture around. You'll be surprised.

Ok, well it just seems like you have a block, its nothing that you cant get through you just need to practise whatever you have a hard time drawing. TIPS FOR HOW TO MASTER WHAT YOUR BAD AT: 1. try looking at what your drawing from a diffrent persective, like instead of drawing the head first start with the torso, or i always start on the eyes and then draw the head, and then the rest of the body. 2.instead of going into detail with your drawings just start with basic shapes and work your way from there, it may take a little longer but your end result wil be better. 3.fineding a modle is sometimes better then just looking at a picture or having an image in your head. get one of your friends to pose for you. 4.remember when your drawing somthing your not good at, then you should try to draw lighter because of mistakes you might make.

It is very hard to get a likeness when you draw a person. I tried to draw my favourite actors a few times, and it ended terribly. What you have to do, is get a picture, print it, or just look at it on your computer screen, then you study it. You observe the shape of their eyes, how far down their mouth is, the shape of the eyebrows etc. Then your draw a rough outline of the face, and mark with lines where each bit goes, like the end of the nose, eyes, mouth, eyebrows and make them the right distance apart etc. Then just start to draw the shapes in. Drawing people is extremely hard and you need a lot of practise, but it pays off, I can now draw people much better. Also, if you are drawing someone, find a picture of a person with a simple face to start of with, and younger people are easier to draw because you don't have to worry about the wrinkles. Good Luck!

Hey I can see you like Tokio Hotel. I have drawn them here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzHI65QvW1Y Maybe you have seen it before. Well I have several tips. 1. Get proportion right. Measure, grid, do anything to get the proportions right before you continue shading. 2. Eyes are important. The eyes make up a person. 3. Convert a picture to black and white. This is an easier method to determine how to shade. 4. Invest in better pencils and supplies if you haven't already. Even though materials don't make an artist, it certainly helps. 5. Spent time learning. I spent the first 6 months when I started drawing just drawing everyday. Then I joined an art forum (dueysdrawings.com) and learned some stuff there. Googling tutorials work too. 6. Practice is the most important part. 7. Train your eyes to see shadows and shading rather than lines. 8. Post art of an art site like deviantart and ask for critique. You might not like criticism at first but it helps you in the long run to improve.

You need to go to life drawing classes, it does take a lot of practise, even if you are a very good drawer. To draw people you have to get everything in the right place and you have to measure things. Stand from a distance and measure someones head using your fingers and count how many times it fits into the whole body. Then after that you have to measure the shoulders and compare them with other parts of the figure/body. You have to measure everything with your thumb and index finger. Also you know how you draw stick figure men, that's how it actually starts, you draw a circle for the head, and loads of lines going horizontal and vertical and sometimes even diagnalled. And then you start to use curve lines to give more form and structure.
