Where to find good cheap hard drives and graphics tablets?

Graphics tablets why are they hard to draw with?

  • I got a wacom graphics tablet i can usualy draw good with a pencil and paper but when i try the graphics tablet my drawings are worse then childrens drawings. Here is a sample of a drawing using the graphics tablet http://i27.tinypic.com/10oe7ab.jpg It is so hard to control the pen and the drawing. I use photoshop cs4 and thats the best i can come up with. Am i doing something wrong or does it take a long time to get used to a graphics tablet? I just find it so hard to control the pen on screen

  • Answer:

It appears that your main problem, besides not being used to using a tablet yet, I suppose, is that it seems you don't have the pen pressure tool on. That will cause your lines to stay one thickness no mater how hard or lightly you press - by turing pen pressure on, you can control the thickness of your lines. Here is a screen cap of where you can locate the pen pressure tool and turn it on - http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss313/Telekithesis/penpressure.jpg (If you can't tell, it's under the 'brushes' button, then in shape dynamics, and on a scroll down list next to the word control, under the size jitter adjustment bar).

It will take a while to get used to your tablet and it will never feel the same as a pencil. I've been working with tablets for about 8 years and I still have alot more success with a pencil. Just like drawing with a pen is different then drawing with a pencil. There are different setups for your tablet also. One is 'mouse style' which treats your pen like a mouse, you can lift it off move it and drag it. and there's 'tablet style' which treats your wacom surface like the surface of your screen. If you have a large screen and a small tablet, or a wide screen and a square tablet I would suggest mouse style. If your tablet and screen have a similar ratio then tablet style is better. Also another poster talked about pressure sensitivity. If you want your pen to act more like a pencil you need this feature. If your settings in photoshop are correct and your still not getting results you may need to reinstall your tablet drivers. You can also adjust your pressure sensitivity settings in your tablet menu. It might also help to do your sketches with a lower opacity brush. I like a black at about 50% opacity so that I can layer the lines. Really the only way to get used to it is practice.

make sure u have installed the tablet driver- if this isn't installed ur computer will only recognise it as a mouse and not as a dynamic pen. u should activate pressure sensitivity. there are great graphics tablets out there that have pens with changeable nibs- a brush nib for instance which has the feel of a real paint brush. there are also tablets with the screen on the actual drawing space but these are really expensive. it takes a lot of practice and getting used to, but u should find ur own style of drawing using the pen. there might also be an option that makes the 'drawing area' on ur tablet match the screen. play around with it- u'll get there. good luck !

Haha! i just got a tablet a few weeks ago and I know exactly what you mean! They just take getting used to. I try to think of it like how you paint differently then you draw...so its just a new tool that needs practice :D. Yes, try turning on pen pressure sensitivity as explained above by another user :). keep your chin up and keep practicing :D!

must.. ANSWER XD
