How to make a t-shirt?

How did i make part of my tshirt transfer permanent?

I followed the directions... ironed on at the highest setting... flat surface.... pillowcase under the shirt... i even ironed... let it cool... then re-ironed and and re-ironed and then peeled the back paper off leaving the print on the shirt.... although i didn't wash and dry it after. i wore it on a road trip and it was packed in a Ziploc bag... part of it is permanently on the shirt like i can stretch it wash whatever and it wont come off and its happened to others in the past... should i wash after done ironing? should i use specific inc for the printer, specific detergent, i use Avery tshirt transfers
