How is ink made?

How can i make home made ink?

  • i want to make black ink and white ink. in my house

  • Answer:

Well, you can get packets of ink powder and just add water or you could get some pigments (or crushed up berries; charcoal; food colouring; ect.) and mix with water and add a bit of flour to make it thicker. Though, with the latter, it tends to be rather grainy and more like a watercolours. Hope this helps!

The downside is that home made inks usually fade out. There are SCA and calligraphy sites that have recipies. Oak galls (the ball like things growing on oak trees) makes a good ink. Black Walnut shells make good ink too. http://denevell_books.home.insightbb.com/making_walnut_ink.htm http://www.aneira.org/ink.html http://www.drachenwald.sca.org/files/a&s/articles/ink.html http://www.bayrose.org/Poppy_Run/walnut_ink_web.pdf
