How can you do a visual project on perception?

Where can I find visual images that will help me in my English project about perception?

  • I'm doing a book report on Sherlock Holmes, and for added creative 'flair' I want to include pictures that have subtle visual cues about the subject that the trained eye could pick up and elaborate on, and use these pictures as examples for the class. So far the only idea that I have is a picture of a middle aged, tanned woman with a tan line where her wedding ring would be, therefore indicating that she's taken it off due to instability in her relationship. Basically what I need to know is other ideas that I can use, or a location to find pictures like this. Thanks

that is an assumption on your part, not a valid observation. Three is no law that says someone may or may not take off wedding jewelery, and indeed some cultures do not wear them at all, or wear them on different finger than we do in the US. Or that lady may not be married at all and normally wears a ring of her choice on that finger. Or, e.g. the lady may be like me, an artist who lives in the South of US, gets a lot of sun, but takes her ring off when she does art and does not want it to get clay or paint stuck in or on it. I never wear my valuable and precious ring on the beach - may lose it in the water. Now if it were a man in a bar with young and beautiful women around, then I would assume he took it off so he appears to me single rather than married, and therefore attract another woman...but not if he was alone on the beach or at the pool. If you really read the Sherlock Holmes stories, you would look for real clues that are definite visual cues - e.g. paint on the person's cuff or clay under the fingernails would indicate the person does art... or mud on the cuff of a person's pants, indicating he walked on a wet day rather riding in a vehicle to the meeting place. Sherlock never made weak assumptions... he looked at the whole story. Reread your story and make notes about valid clues, rather than weak assumptions. After you find a few, then look for photos and images to support the cue on the internet and in old magazines... ask friends and relatives for old magazines if none immediately available at your house.
