How much should an artist charge?

• I've been commissioned to do some graphics for a new skate shop opening up on Maui. Thing is, I've never sold any of my art before and I honestly have no idea how I should approach my payment. How much should I charge for my designs? An up-front price or royalties? Not sure how this works....

  Charge what you feel your services are worth, Do you have a current reputation? Are you fresh out of school? How extensive is the graphics? How long will it take you? How long would it take a normal graphic artist? They are all key parts and questions you should ask yourself, I'm sure you have friends who do the same thing, you could ask them. It's hard to say because there's no way of telling how big the project is. I would charge an upfront price, Take in consideration your time and resources used and how detailed and in depth the graphics are
