How To Start a Fashion Design Portfolio Need Help?

  • OK. I'm 15 and I want to work in the Fashion Design and Marketing Field. How do I start a Portfolio?(Like How do I put my Finished Sketching Design into a Book or something?) Help Me.

    Allrighty, some things u should know 1) u need an insperation board, which holds a them for ur designs (things that inspire u) and u can hav more than one board 2) u need to get swatches, examples of the fabric u would use in designs 3) create the designs, with every idea make at least 4 images to push creativity and ur ideas 4) re draw and color the designs u like the most and but them in a binder if u have anymore questions, just as + good luck

I am also trying to compile a portfolio, so a portfolio from an art supply store is great to start with, but if your going to design school in a few years, you should make a digital version as well. You can do this by scanning your designs into a photo program, maybe adding a simple border (for professionalism) because you may not be able to have a one-on-one portfolio interview with the schools, so going digital would make it alot easier to show your designs to alot of people.

Buy a plastic portfolio cover with the laminate inserts at a office supply store. Use the sleeves to fill with your drawings complete with fabric samples and detailed sewing/creation information. It may also be helpful to include photographs/magazine pictures of styles that you have been inspired by or the elements used in each design.

hmmm.....use some sort of binder but with plastic film covering to protect your work.

Go buy a portfolio case, either a craft store or more likely a office supply store. When you have something you are really proud of, put it in there. That's all. ; ) If there is a certain way people can put them in a binder of some sort, I am sure they will show you how in college, where you will learn all the skills and build on your talents and include all your BEST work then. Even if your present work isn't in your portfolio ten years from now, it will probably help you get into a good school so it is worth putting some good work together. Good luck! : )
