How to get into Commercial Art as a career?

How do I (a ten year old) get my art career going?

  • I need to know how I (a ten year old kid) can be ready for being a famous artist one day. Give me real answers too. Not just practice all of the time. I want more info about how to be ready to be a very good artist.

  • Answer:

I talk about this in my new book: Young Artists which should be coming out soon. But for now, here are some small tips that can help ya: - Learn about art contests in your area. Maybe search the net for local, state, and national art competitions. As a kid, this is what I did, and you can earn experience in competing, and even get cash prizes and bonds. It's good for you! - Find unique places to show your art. You can really have your own art show and for free! Contact your local cafes, restaurants, churches, schools, galleries, or halls about having your own art show. - Have a parent or guardian help you with that. It's possible! Sometimes you can just consider getting a show in your own backyard. It really counts as a show that you can put on your growing resume. - Keep a journal/book of all the things you have done with your art: competitions, shows, sales, etc. Make sure to record the dates of when these went on. - Take as many art classes in school as you can. When you get into Highschool, there will be a lot of different art classes you can take, and though you will be learning new skills or improving yours, you will get opportunties to do competitions or other work in your school. hope this helps! http://www.natashawescoat.com http://www.natashasartcandy.com is where I talk about ideas for artists in business, marketing, and the like~!

Practicing all the time doesn't necessary mean that you're going to be a good artist. From listening to my teachers who were all artists by trade, they basically told me and my classmates that trying and experimenting with new techniques can help expand your horizons. And If you have work that you have done and want to showcase whether for display or sell, you can try mounting them on sturdy boards or in frames. Just make sure you ask for assistance to be safe. From there you can setup a mini art display in your yard so people can view your work. If you aren't allowed to do this in your area try a library with conference rooms, a booth at a market area where people sell there goods or at a local art festival. Just make sure you check ahead to see if it would be okay with the event coordinators for you to set up a little area for your display. If you want more info you can check out books from your local library or visit some local colleges with art programs. The teachers that are in this program can give great advice on how to get your art career going. Happy Art-ing!

First do some research into what kind of art you like to make best. Then see what artists are selling that kind of work to learn how to market it. Take notes about where you see the art and how it's sold. Enter your work into contests and juried exhibits. You can do a search on OPEN CALLS for artists to find these. Entering them will help you build a professional art resume. Keep honing your skills and try to develop a style slightly different from others. Take as many classes and read as much as you can on entrepreneurship and business (this is just as important as being a skilled artist). Check out ART.com they have a program called Artist Rising for new artists. Also a good place to start online display is Yessy.com gallery. Good Luck!

hello : )

Being famous is alot more about luck and chance than you may think. First of all, what kind of artist do you want to be? A cartoonist? A fine artist? A graffiti artist? All of them have very different paths you would take. But here's a good tip for getting famous in general. When you're older you'll need to "network". Make friends with people you admire or people that are well known in their field. Just e-mail them and start a conversation, and if they're nice enough to talk back to you, just keep e-mailing back and forth so they get to konw you well (but stay away from the personal info like your address and phone number). That's how you find out about opportunities. Practice all the time is a real answer. Most people I go to school with have amazing skills. If you ask any one of them, you'll find out that they spent almost every day practicing. Most of them keep sketchbooks or art journals that they doodled in daily. I myself have a decent collection of them. Nobody becomes a famous artist without very good skills, and the way you get good skills is to practice all the time.

Practice Practice Practice. Send some of your drawings into art competitions and such...make a portfolio of your best work. Look at other peoples art, get a feeling of what kind of artist you want to be. My suggestion is to go to mueseums. Hope I helped. =]
