First you need to find a gallery or museum that matches your particular style of art. For instance you wouldn't want to take modern art to a gallery that only shows Hudson River style art. The second is that galleries must be accepting new artists so you need to find one that not only matches your style but is also looking for new artists. This means doing research. Minimally Google your style with galleries that may match. Better yet would be to go to a local art gallery and ask to speak to someone about your interests, styles, aspirations and get some advice from them. They may even have suggestions or a referral to a gallery that will match your style. As to how much you can make: this depends on the quality of your art, the current market for that style and finding buyers. Don't expect a gallery to do it all for your. It takes time to build up your name and receive recognition. To do that you must show your art. Initially entering shows or competitions may help to get your name out there and to receive a few pats on the back which you can put on your resume. I can tell you from personal experience that even winning major competitions doesn't mean instant recognition or sales. It takes time and work but it is possible. Do not give up your day job.
