How to shade in paint tool SAI?

WHY does photoshop not have the blending tool and water brush tool like paint tool SAI!?

  • I have Adobe Photoshop CS5.. Top of the line, amazing in every single way.. right? WRONG. I have gotten SO fed up with it lately that I DON'T EVEN WANT TO DRAW. Photoshop is FANTASTIC for effects and editing and adding in final touches. Phenomenal. It's also great with realistic portraits and that kind of art style. But with MY art style.. I MUST HAVE the blending tool and water brush like in SAI! I have to jump through hurtles to mimic the effects of SAI and it STILL doesn't look enough like it! The only reason I don't have SAI is because well.. I have a mac. Macs are incredible. I love mine. I'm just fuming right now that they don't have SAI for them! I've found downloads of SAI packages for mac but the catch is that the pen pressure doesn't work.. and well, that's kind of extremely important. I've also installed Windows 7 through parallels and then went on and installed SAI and my tablet drive and all that fun stuff and well.. it still doesn't work! And even IF I did it RIGHT.. it would still be a pain in the *** to open up parallels and do all that crazy **** and not have everything work right (you can't scroll down to some options or enlarge the window, etc.). MANY MANY MANY professionals use SAI.. and MANY MANY MANY professionals use macs! Will they EVER make SAI for mac? WHEN. And why don't they have it already! They would make TONS of money off of us mac users! Please does anyone know ANYTHING!? Or how you get around not having SAI?

  • Answer:

Photoshop is not an illustration software – it is primarily a photo retouching programme with some illustration capabilities added to it. Perhaps if you post samples of what you are trying to achieve someone will be able to suggest a method of doing it in Photoshop. If you want painterly effects I would suggest Painter. http://www.corel.com/corel/product/index.jsp?pid=prod4030123&cid=catalog20038&segid=78&storeKey=us&languageCode=en If you want to try something else have a look at Sketchbook Pro – you can download it through the App store there is a free cutdown version http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/index?id=6848332&siteID=123112
