What's the best program for digital art?

  • Okay, so I want the best art program for digital art, but i'm not sure what that is? Do you have any ideas? I'm not talking money wise, I'm talking program wise. So like whats the best based on what you've used. I don't want easy, I want the best. Even if its ultra hard to learn, or expsensive. Ideas?

    Unfortunately it's all a matter of opinion, how you enjoy working. I use a lot of different programs, but I prefer Photoshop and SAI over all of them. Photoshop is really good for any digital art, any retouching, anything you want to do digitally. SAI is lacking in that aspect greatly, during a drawing I flick between the two. If you're into drawing lineart, you might enjoy SAI better, as its pen tool is far better than Photoshop's standard opaque brush. However, there's also Corel Painter, which is good for traditional media. You can use Flash to have that 2D web animation approach to your work, and it's instantly vector. If you want to be a vector artist you would want Illustrator. There's also cheaper versions of Photoshop like Paintshop Pro and GIMP. I also use a glitchy little program called MyPaint (which is free) which has some beautiful brushes in it. It's seriously all what you're used to, I started learning on Photoshop seven years ago and I've taught myself nearly everything I know about it since then. I'd never use anything else. You cant go wrong with Photoshop. However, all the programs listed above work with a graphics tablet, which you will need for proper digital art (If you dont have one, I recommend the Wacom family of tablets).

My top recommendation is ArtRage by Ambient Design. There are numerous versions to buy, but I recommend buying ARTRAGE STUDIO PRO because it has the most features! ArtRage is easy to use and the drawing and painting mediums look REALISTIC. In my opinion, the mediums in other art programs do not look that realistic.
