How to find inspiration for my art and sketches?
-
I always seem to randomly draw something. But when I want to draw something at that moment. I go blank. I want to know how to find inspiration to draw when i want it. Like usually when i start something it always ends up a totally different way. I have always had to gift of drawing, when I was 5, I got accepted into my elementary school ( a very prestigious school for the gifted and talented) because of this skill. And when I graduate high school, art is a career I want to pursue but how do I find inspiration? I have a huge imagination but I just can never seem to sort all my ideas out. PLease help.

Answer:
try drawing something that interests you. drawing just whatever is hanging around isn't a great idea because you will get bored halfway through the project. keep your eyes out for interesting objects or models with nice shapes or lines that will catch your attention and bring your sketchbook with you everywhere so that if you see a particularly appealing person on the bus you will never catch yourself saying 'i wish I'd brought my sketchbook!' search online for pictures and sketches of things that interest you. for example, i love fantasy so i can search online for sketches and good photos of centaurs, phoenixes, griffins and other cool creatures. And as for you starting something and it ending up a totally different way, you are entitled to a huge amount of artistic liscence. Use your imagination to change things you don't like. It doesnt have to be drawn exactly the way you see it all the time. Relax and let you imagination flow!

Go to a beautiful, private place outdoors, w/ your pen & paper in hand and let it go from their.

Just listen to music and get into deep thought, that might help. Just think about life and your views on things going on in the world and try bringing it across on paper

Close your eyes and visualize a blank piece of paper. Then open your eyes and draw the first thing you see. Pick a topic for the month and make a list, then when you want to draw something and go blank pick from the list. For example, you can pick food for the month. Draw different types of food (fruit, animals, restaurants) anything related to food....or you can pick the month of June, and for 60 seconds, write down the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of the month of june (summer, beaches, picnics, heat, no school, travel, etc.) and use those topics when you can't think of anything to sketch. Honestly, I think that sometimes when you are really gifted and really creative, a person can try to hard and block themselves without meaning to. Good luck.

do you ever drive around and see something intresting? just look around. i have been told that artists look differently at the world than other people. i have found that to be true sice i got involved in art. just go out stroll arould and see buildings from different angles and how it hits the light, see how inresting tree shapes are, etc. i love art and i never have a problem with drawing or painting. Just look and learn to see.(i sound so cheesy and mysterios but just tyr it)

I often have the same problem. I dont think it is so much of a problem of what you want to draw but how you want to draw it. When i try to think of something, i frist try to image how i want to make it. If i would rather use acrylic or oil paint, the technique of how i want to do it etc. Then based on that i try to image what i can incorporate. For instance if i am in the mood for something really defined and exact i might do duck on a pond. Or if i want to do something just to vent out some emotions id paint a base picture of a flower and go to town with textures and crazy colours. And i find the more you try to imagine what you want to do you come up with so many ideas you might end up starting something completly differnt then what you orginally were going to do. If you browse other peoples art work you can also start brainstroming that way. I attended basic art classes but i think art is all about emotion, maybe take a walk and just study whats around you. You can often find inspiration in things you see everyday.

You want to find a niche; a theme. Think about what you think is the most beautiful and focus in one area.
