-
If you're married and you take your husbands last name and you go to college or whatever and get a degree with that name can you change it back to your old name if you get divorced??? On a diploma or something like that can it be changed? Or do you have to keep that name forever? any help?

Answer:
Actually, It can be changed. If a divorce or other substantial effect occurs in your life, and a court has deemed it as being crucial on your behalf, then yes you can. I recommend seeking out a lawyer who can contact the university/bank etcetera, etcetera. The lawyer will charge and the university or whatever will also require a charge to renew your certificates or details under a new name that differs from time of registration. You should be fine with it, only thing is, it wont be cheap, and I reccomend you with-hold your standing last name to avoid the high fees and frustration o detail changing. Also, you change your name at a university and not have it legally changed any where else. If it is changed in 1 place it must be changed EVERYWHERE or you can be sued. Ensure that you have informer IRD or the inland revenue department about the name change (so that the bastards can take more of your tax money). So yeah please consult this and any other outstanding questions should be re-directed to your trusted lawyer. Best of luck, and hope all goes well with your situation. Evan James Chandler

You can change your last name. Many women return to their maiden names after divorce; some men alter their names when they remarry. It can be changed on birth certificates, credit cards, social security documents, identification cards, mail records, real estate recordings, automobile titles, and so on. It takes time. Often for official records--birth certificates, social security systems, passports, and the like--you need a court order, which is a sheet of paper signed by a judge and sealed by a court. It's not a hard process, especially for a woman because women do this more often than men, but it is long and tedious because you get only one court order and have to use the same one over and over. About diplomas I don't less certain. Usually, colleges and high schools have no mechanisms in place for such changes, so you may have to pay for a new diploma, if the school will do it at all; or you may have to keep the court order--it is a very valuable piece of paper--to explain whenever you have to use your diploma for some purpose. Often, of course, diplomas are not used at all; transcripts are more important, and for this you can often get by with an explanation, especially if you are a woman, Maybe a school will change the name on the transcript. If so, many times that change consists of s simple cross out, with the old name visible for tacit honesty and transparency.

If you use your maiden name in high school, your name can change at marriage. It does not change that the person who attended the school then, was named (such and such) AT THAT TIME. Meaning, no, you don't go back and change what is/ was a valid record. You don't change your birth certificate when you get married, either. IF you choose to revert to your maiden name (and many do), then you need to change id, just as you changed to the new name when you got married. It does not include GOING BACK to alter any prior documents.

You can not change the name of your diplomas, you get to keep that name forever! The only way to avoid this is to keep you maiden name when you get married.
