Why do most people have their father's last name?

What woud be a good last name?

  • I want to change my middle and last name. My middle and Last names are my fathers first and last names. My names Kelvin, and I wanted to hear some ideas as to what might sound good. I want a name that stands out. Something that isn't a name that just blends in with other names. I want something that when people hear it, they know who it is cause its such a stand out name. Be Creative, I'm looking for anything at this point. I don't care if other people find the name funny or not, I went most of my life with a name that made me feel terrible, I want something spontanious. Thanks! Incase you're wondering why I want to change my name. Before you try to talk me out of it or say its a bad idea. My father abandoned me whe I was 5. And I've never felt comfortable bearing his last name let alone first name as well. I'm finally 18 and I want to change it.

  • Answer:

What I think is a good last name may not appeal to you. Have you thought about your mother's maiden name? Some ancestral name? Since you have to live with it, you have to choose it. Don't forget all the records you have to change, including IRS, Social Security, driver's license, school, banking and work, to mention a few. Here is a list of names or you can open the phone book and start looking. http://www.behindthename.com/
