How can I find my long lost relative in the US?

How can I search through the human directories of Greece to try and find my long, lost grandfather?

  • Where do I go to try and find someone? He might be dead, now... but I want to find him. :-/ I've never seen him because after my grandmother divorced from him, they lost touch- never to hear from one another again. I just want to see my biological grandfather again or at least find out what happened to him... :-/ How do I go about finding this info out? I'm genuinely serious. If you know what I can try and do, please help. I'd appreciate no smartass comments. I didn't really know where to categorize this question... so yeah. :-/

The best way to find a living person is to have someone in that country who is a native speaker do the looking, especially in a county like Greece where the alphabet is even different. I would honestly suggest that you look for a Greek Orthodox church in your area. Make an appointment with the priest and ask if he can help put you in touch with someone in Greece who will help you. You'll need to take all of the information you have about him with you. It's very possible that the person who will be asked to help you will be the priest from the community where you last knew your grandfather was living. There's one thing about Greeks that is pretty universal...they're very devout Christians and have very strong religious communities. If he died in that community, they'll know right off the bat. If he was active in the community and moved away, the priest will know who in that community might remember him. Basically just pose it as "Father, I want to be reunited with the grandfather I've never been able to meet. Can you help?" I'm absolutely sure you can find a sympathetic priest to help bring you and your grandfather back together again.

Have you tried the Greek Embassy, at least they would have some of knowledge of their country to tell you, where is the best place for you, to go,to start your search. Good Luck.
