Where does the surname Pook originate from?

Where does the surname 'Chigurh' originate from?

  • Anyone seen the Coen brothers' film 'No Country for Old Men'? In the film there is black-haired assassin named Anton Chigurh (portrayed by Spaniard Javier Bardem). His surname (pronounced like 'sugar') is one I find unusual. Does anyone know where it originates from? My thoughts were possibly French, Indian or Algerian. Or is it perhaps a fictional surname? Know anyone with this surname? P.S. I apologise if I offended anyone with the surname 'Chigurh', I have just never heard a surname of this type before.

  • Answer:

Since the name only shows up in the movie, it is probably a made-up name by the Coen brothers.
