Does anyone know where one can purchase software to create coat of arms for a business?

I'd like to start a family coat of arms business but need the coat of arms software/images on disk to do so. Does anyone know where I can find this software? (other than namehistories.com)

Answer:
Folks with an interest in genealogy wouldn't have the foggiest idea about that commercial nonsense. Since it's not real it not only wouldn't be of interest to researchers who assist on this forum, it'd be close to anathema because of the dishonesty with which those items are presented to the gullible.

That coat of arms stuff is for the most part fake. The majority of family surnames did NOT have their own coat of arms.

Since you know that most of the coats of arms are not real, be sure to disclose that to all your customers.

To be honest if you are going to do it right you might need to go back say maybe to england and build from there I mean if you are going to do it right, otherwise you are wasting your time. Most programs that use the image feature to build the arms when projected in real world tend to come out fuzzy and the pixtels from the image you used show thru in otherwords it's not a sharp reproduction of the image but for general use I would suggest : Basic Heraldry resource http://www.digiserve.com/heraldry http://www.coatsofarms.addr.com/index.htm Software: http://www.4crests.com/hersof.html http://www.puncher.co.uk/gen_herald.php Hope that helps good luck.

Many coats of arms have the same name which means more than one individual with a particular surname was granted one. For instance there are about 200 for Lewis. That does not mean everyone with the surname Lewis is any way related to the 200 with that name, much less be a direct descendant. You could go to a library and look it up in Burke's peerage. In the United States there are no laws regarding heraldry and many people sell them based solely on a surname without documentation that the person they sell them to are entitled to them. I understand some will do "research" and "link" you to a person that was granted one. The companies that sell them are all over the internet. You can find them by putting "heraldry" in your search engine. While it is not illegal, it is certainly dishonest unless you let people know that the coat of arms you sell to them they might not really be entitled to it under the rules of heraldry. Not everyone with the same surname come from the same root. There was a time when a person was called William son of John and that is how he signed his name. He eventually was called William Johnson. There was more than one John that had sons. There was Robert the taylor and that is how he signed his name. Many people with the occupation taylor took the surname Taylor. Some names are habitational for the town or castle they lived close to. A person can make a mistake in thinking just because they had an ancestor that lived close to a castle with their family surname that they were related to the nobleman that owned the castle. Sam lived on a hill and became Sam Hill but he wasn't the only one living on a hill that took the surname Hill.
