How do I find a German birth certificate, and death certificate?

If you have done a birth/death certificate on someone with the state office and they find nothing (more below)?

  • Does that mean that there is no such person? I paid our state to find the birth/death of an unknown named little baby girl, and they sent the records back.- None found for said dates. Could that be possible, or could something be wrong/ missed? any suggestions?

  • Answer:

It means that no child was registered birth/death<<<<<<<<<<<<<so the person never existed, or the dates are wrong, or the child/parents names are wrong<<<<<<<<<however if it was dates wrong they would normally look a couple of years prior and a couple of years after and if even one parent was correct they would tell you<<<<<< In this situation it means that you have no proof and can find no proof of a child<<<<<<<<<< these are often from family stories from people we love and trust and can't ever imagine they would lie or mis guide us<<<<<<<<<<< but there maybe many reasons why they do, they may think and believe what they told you to be 100% true as that is what they were told by someone they equally trusted 100%, or it could be easier for them to lie as the truth may hurt them personally more or they have lied for so long that it feels like the truth. Fact is don't judge the family member who told you this, they are humans and as humans we don't always do the right thing<<<<<< my grandmother lied to me about who her father in law was, she knew, she had died before I eventually found out and I know now why she did lie because of shame ( he ran off with somone else leaving my great grandma and large young family to run the farm on their own) while living in the next village with his gf<<<< that was shameful then and it happen 20 years before she met my Grandad<<<< Accept that without record proof there is no unknown child, make sure you write the story as you have been told it, by who, when etc as it is part of your oral family history, whether it is true or not<<<<<<<<<<
