How can I find my long lost relative in the US?

How to find lost relatives?

  • I want to know either how to find lost relatives myself for free or what else I can possibly do to locate my lost relatives. I'm looking for my brother and sister. They're my dad's kids. I don't have much information, my dad's side of the family won't help me AND my dad, who would have pretty much all of the information I need, passed away 10 years ago. Here's the info I have: *State of birth *Year of birth (for my sister I actually have the month and day, but I just have a year for my brother) *Parents first names (I don't have their mothers last names and due to the fact that my father wasn't married to one, and divorced the other, they probably don't have his last name) *Siblings names That's about all I have to work with. My sister's 35 and my brother's 28. I'm 18, I've missed out on so much time with them, they don't even know about me and I'm desperate to find them. I feel like a piece of me is missing, a piece that connects me to my father. Please help. Any info would be appreciated.

  • Answer:

find a friend of your fathers from back in the day....go through his old phonebook, you might find someone who knows something more..someone he knew might have known an old address, a school they might have gone to, then you could contact the schools for some info. your father must have kept some track of them once upon a time, surely some scrap of paper he left behind has an old phone number, a last name etc...try them all did he leave a will....his estate papers might have the names you want, especially if he left them something... divorce papers as well.....they had to use a lawyer for that...find his name, he's sure to know where they used to live at least...he could always tell you or at least forward a message. you can try some guesses on facebook or classmates...one of them might have your fathers last name after all. type your fathers first and last name in quotations in a search engine...could be one of them has mentioned him online somewhere. a private company could find them pretty quick...don't waste years and years and years fumbling around when the price of a couple of pairs of shoes can get you their phone number tomorrow.

It is hard to find people for free. Intellius.com is a good site that will help with the info you have, or netdetective - the program. It is a lot more expensive to hire a P.I. who will probably use those first anyway. But if that doesn't work, that is your last resort.

Well it's pretty long process. But with determination and persistence you can find alot. I have found family members in Germany and Italy and have traced my family back to 1200's in some areas. So ancestry.com is a good start, genealogy.com, and family search.com. Try looking for people that lived in the area. And the Censues.

Steel Curtain Dominates All Else

I think that no matter what you would have to pay. If you know the state that they live in then you can call information trying your dads last name first.
