How can i find out on line who lived in my house in 1875?
-
I have moved into a house that was built in 1875 and i would like to know who lived in there then and since how can i do this on line

Answer:
Normally you can look up the plot in the land records office of your county clerk, or however they file these records in Britain. Reverse address directories are good, if available. Census records from 1871 if it still exists, may give you some idea if the person turns out to be still living there in 1875. Whether or not this information is online, I don't know. Try rootsweb.com and search on the county, and possibly even the town you live in. Good luck. I hope the house is in good repair since it is that old.

Try US genweb- link below. Go to your state and then your county and search the land records. You could also go to your local courthouse and ask for the land records from that time period. Your local genealogy society may also be helpful. You can probably find them on the genweb page for your county.

You Brits are SO self-centered. Did you think you were the only people in the world who used Yahoo! Answers? If you had put the name of your kingdom in your question the first time, the lady who advised the US Gen Web would not have wasted her efforts. The Americans do it too, so don't feel so bad. If your house is part of the National Trust, look it up in Google by name. If it is not part of the NT, chances are good that no one has bothered to write it up for the web, so you won't be able to find its history on-line. Someone at your local library may be able to help you. In the US we have city directories; you probably do too. They have reverse listings, in which people are listed by address, instead of by name. If your library has old directories, you will be able to trace backwards. Hope this helps, rude as it is. Please specify the town, shire and kingdom in your further genealogical questions. I ask americans to specify town, county and state in theirs.

Do a search for your town, for city records, then go from there.
