What is the legal age to serve alcohol in BC?

I want to serve alcohol at my 21st birthday party but all the attendees are not of drinking age. What to do?

  • I want to throw a 21st birthday bash but I have friends and family members under the age of 21. It will be held in a party hall or ballroom. People keep telling me if I invite people under drinking age, I can't serve alcohol. I want to know is there a way I can separate the people of legal age from the others? I thought about arm bands or something like that. Any suggestions?

  • Answer:

THe party hall/ballroom staff should already have something in place for this. either they dont allow alcohol to be served or they will do ID check/bands/etc...something they've already done in the past.

It would be a great idea for you to use colored arm bands so you can know who the under age people are. Also have the alcohol monitored by someone so you don't have any under age people sneaking some drinks to each other. I hope you have fun and be safe! :-)

Ask the owners of the place you decide or call around and ask before you decide

I order to have a party with minors and alcohol you would have to go to and ID and wristband system unless you want to end up in jail or like being involved in a lawsuit. Most commercial places will not do it for that reason. I assure you you don't want to remember your party by having to visit your friend in the hospital or bailing them out of jail or worse sill the morgue . There is always that one who never really drank or shouldn't drink that goes ape9087 drinking. That law is for a good reason. The age should probably be higher because I knew very few that were responsible drinkers from ages 18 to 25 . So if you want to have a birthday remembered for the fun, dancing and being with your friends instead of people being stupid, vomit on the floor and flashing red lights and people fighting over car keys. I know because I was and had many friends who were stupid drunks. I am forever grateful that I never killed anybody. Hope this helps. HAPPY BIRTHDAY IN ADVANCE!!!!

21+ can drink; underage cannot. My ex and I had a mixed age reception, and I dumped a minor's beer on the ground. As long as minors are not drinking, there won't be any problems.

check with the people at the hall-they will know the required procedure. People have wedding receptions with mixed ages and a bar all the time-I'm sure it can be done.
