What do you need at the anniversary party?

Need help with 25th anniversary party?

  • I started planning an anniversary party for my mom and dad a few months ago, and now its a few weeks away. I have been able to get a hall for free with a bar included, however i let the food part get away from me and i currently only have about 100-150 to spend on everything. I had thought about buying some of the large 10lb lasagnia and making a big salad and possibly some veggie trays, just looking for some other inexpensive food ideas or party ideas in general. I have also had several people ask if there is anything they can bring. in the case of people asking what to bring, are you actually supposed to ask them to bring something, or are they just asking to be polite? lol i just wonder about the last part because i dont want to ask someone to bring a desert and then have them be pissy because i took them up on their offer

  • Answer:

Those who offered really do want to bring something. Make a menu then ask different people to bring different things off the menu. If you just say, "Bring whatever you want!", you will end up with quite an "interesting" buffet. You can also tell the person the menu and if they want to bring a dish that complements the buffet, then that's good, too. If you let people bring "whatever", you will end up with 6 potato salads, no meat dish, 72 Green Bean Casseroles and nothing to drink! So: 1. make the menu and determine how many/much of everything on the menu you will need 2. call all the people that offered to help and assign them a dish, tell them how much needs to be made.If it is a large party, split each dish between two people (don't forget non-alcoholic drinks, ice) 3. rent the appropriate number of chafing dishes to keep the food hot so that you don't have a big ole foodborne illness outbreak Good luck!

If people ask what they can bring they want to help and since you are low on money, accept their offer! One could bring different salad dressings, another could bring rolls, others could bring desserts or whatever else you might need (chips? pretzels? nuts? for the tables). You've probably already got this under control, but just in case you haven't thought of them: plates? napkins? plasticware? cups? Have you ordered a cake? Good luck!

If I personally ask what can I bring, it means I want to offer something for the party if it will be helpful. If it's a catered event I might bring some wine or flowers for the hostess. Since it's not catered, let people know what would be a good item to bring, whether it's a salad, dessert etc. Make sure you are specific as to what kind of dishes so you don't end up with all kinds of desserts for instance. As far as inexpensive food, Italian is a good option (lasagna as you mentioned or spaghetti). Is this to be a sit down event or socializing and walking around with your food? You might reconsider if it's not a sit down event. Appetizers and finger foods would be better suited if it's not a sit down event.
