I need birthday party ideas.

**PARTY PEOPLE**I need ideas for my boyfriends 40th birthday party?

  • I really want to make it nice and special and I don't have a ton of money. We are having some family and friends over for a dinner party, I am getting maybe a half keg of his fav beer and his gift is a fire pit for his yard. I want to have a relaxed party atmosphere. So I need some ideas of how to make it special without spending a ton of money. I know his family and mine will want to help a little too. Any tips you might have on planning a smooth party so I can enjoy it too and not be running around all night? So far my plans are... liquor- a keg. Anything else is BYOB (I know my family will have this one covered, lol) food- I was going to make chicken and steak/veggie kabobs in advance marinated the night before, as well as hamburgers and dogs. Maybe a side dish of rice, potatoes or some kind of side salad. (I can ask his family to bring a side dish) appetizers- crackers, cheese, grapes, and my spinach/artichoke dip which he loooves, and maybe ask his family to bring an appetizer as well. (We like lots of munchies) and of course I'll get the B-day cake Lighting- he has 3 decks in the back of the house and I CAN NOT afford to buy party lights to cover all that space. Between my own white christmas lights and my parents and brothers white string lights I thought I could wrap them all around the railing and have white sparkly lights everywhere instead of the bright flood lights out back..will that look tacky??. I was also going to put tiki torches all over to keep the bugs away, they are pretty inexpensive. Music...I have no idea other than putting the speakers in the house against the windows into the back yard. I am planning on sending out "Evites" for invitations about 1.5 months in advance... So what do you think??? Suggestions? Ideas?? This is not a surprise party but I'm not letting him help me plan because he does so much for me. What kind of fun surprise thing could I have at the party that wouldn't cost a lot?? Any ideas/feedback you all have is greatly appreciated!!!

    How about a tournament? Does he like to play poker? horseshoes? ping pong? Have a talent show? Set up chairs and ask the invitees to bring their talent! A mystery dinner? I've never set one up, but they sell kits to do it yourself. Theme parties are fun, but I don't know how to keep it relaxed. It's basically a free for all with a theme. Edit. That's it!! Do an "80's hair band" theme!! It will be hilarious!! Maybe even mix it with a talent show? And have everyone dress as their favorite 80's rocker!

hey that party sounds awesome already. maybe you could do the veggie kabobs and meats on a grill (if you don't have one maybe a friend with a truck could bring theirs) or have a fire in your yard for a little romance. -take a saucepan of unsalted popcorn kernals - add about 1/2 cup veggie oil - take upon fire and stir till pops pop - use a peanut-butter OR chocolate coated skewer and roll on popcorn. i tried that last one at my summer party and everyone seemed to luv it. after popcorn is done you have to add a little salt though..... for music Evite has a thing where you can ask guests to bring something. have them bring a radio and run a cord to the porch or yard. maybe have everyone outside with alllll the lights off to stargaze. its perty cool. . .. ... .. . about the surprise im stumped maybe get to find out something he loved in his cchildhoodand re-create it. like a scene or a scrapbook thingy of events that you've done together. he'll love that. especially cuz u can put your own special touch on every page. a good place for books is wal-mart ora popular craft shop. for instance if there was a pic of u2 2gether for like the 1st time u could glue on rose petals. or if you found a picture of him in a tree when he was young make messages out of leaves. hope i helped ya and have the best party eva!
