How do you plan a Murder Mystery Party?

I'm planning on having a murder mystery party this summer. I plan on writing everything myself so I don't want one of the boxed games. I was looking for a good theme though. The party will be in an apartment with balcony. I want to have an equal amount of women and men. All guests will be over 18. Give me as many themes as you can think of! I have some already. -80's -Summer Luau -Mafia -Horror (leaning towards house on haunted hill) Give me some themes! :D Thanks!

There are lots of things you could tie in with this and really get your imagination going with the script Obviously the whole Mafia, Gangster thing would go well :) Other ideas include ~ Pirates ... treasure and murder on the high seas! ~ Star Wars ... who kills Darth Vader? ... maybe it was C3PO? hehe ~ Night at the Oscars ... think actresses/actors / red carpet and murder ~ Medieval - Knights of the Round Table Enjoy ~ hope these ideas help :)
