What are some romantic ideas for a birthday party?

What are some good ideas for food that doesn't cost much for a birthday party feeding 15-20 people?

  • I'm turning 20 on January 23 & I decided that since I haven't really had a birthday party since I turned 18, I'd throw one this year. Basically there will be 6-8 kids between the ages of 2 and 10 (3 are below 3) and probably between 8-12 adults including myself. I plan on serving vanilla cake & chocolate ice cream but beyond that I'm not sure what to do. Basically, I need cheap(er) food ideas because I don't have much money to spend on the party. What are some good ideas for food that doesn't cost much for a birthday party feeding 15-20 people? I know as a host I should expect to incur some money but this past year has been particularly rough on my family, friends as well as myself. So I don't expect to get much of anything as far as presents or money which is one of the reasons I'm trying to be more frugal. Any help is appreciated. Thanks so very much!

SPAGHETTI WITH MEAT SAUCE AND A SALAD is a relatively cheap meal that stretches a long way and is easy to cook. CHILI is also a good dollar stretcher. You can make it mild and let the adults add cayenne pepper to their individual bowls to suit their taste. Have sour cream, corn chips, shredded cheese, etc. for toppings. BAKED CHICKEN WITH RICE AND VEGGIES tends to be an inexpensive crowd pleaser. (You could even fry the chicken. Everybody doesn't like to cook it, but I haven't run into anyone who minds eating it lol.) POT ROAST WITH POTATOES AND VEGGIES goes over pretty well too. I know the meat is more expensive, but potatoes are about the cheapest thing in town this time of year. Also, you could do a pork roast. BBQ CHICKEN, POTATO SALAD, CORN ON THE COB, AND GREEN BEANS is another inexpensive crowd pleaser that reminds us of warmer days. Once you get the chicken in the oven with some sauce, you’re half way there. TACO BAR is good depending on the crowd. Just cook some ground beef, shred some cooked chicken, and heat some canned beans. Get soft and hard shells and toppings (shredded cheese, lettuce, tomato, salsa, etc.) and let the guests help themselves. When children are involved, I try to include something kid-friendly like HOT DOGS and CHICKEN TENDERS in case they don’t like or can’t eat the main dish. Good luck and enjoy your birthday!
