14-year-old Birthday party, good idea?

Is a tea-party a lame idea for a 18th birthday party?

  • My bestfriend and I are having a joint 18 birthday party. We're planning to have a big party at night, but a tea party earlier in the day to celebrate with our closest friends. We want to run with an Alice and Wonderland theme where everyone dresses up in quirky clothing and we drink from mismatched tea sets. Is this a lame idea? Any suggestions?

    Before I read the rest of your question I immediately thought have an Alice in Wonderland tea party because that is not lame at all! Mismatched tea sets, and cups are a great idea. Dont stop there though. Have flowers (could be fake) on the table in tea pots. Use different sized chairs, or if you cant do that, then wrap each chair in a different color cloth or ribbon. And make sugar cookies with different brightly colored frosting, and some that say "Eat Me". And have tags or place settings near the tea that say "Drink Me". You and your best friend could also decorate your own bday hats (mad hatter style). =) Enjoy!

Your idea is great! If not so keen on the Alice theme, then go for another idea such as a formal dress or far eastern theme. Be sure to have more than one kind of tea available. Lovely cookies and nibbles to round out the experience. Best wishes to you both~ the idea is perfect.

I love this idea! You could go to a paint-your-own pottery place to make the teacups and a tea pot. Or you could get a clear teapot and use the tea blooms (balls that open up into flowers when you put them in hot water.) You could make centerpieces out of flats of wheatgrass and stick in flowers and butterflies/dragonflies. Have fun!
