If I have 42 guests for a BBQ, how many hot dogs and hamburgers should I make?
-
I have 42 guests coming for a BBQ. We will be having hot dogs and hamburgers and I'm not quite sure on how many to purchase. I also want to know how many soda bottles should I get? (They are the 2Liter size.) Would 2 Pepsi, 2 7up, and 2 Orange be okay? Also, in terms of water bottles, I have the little water bottles but 48 of them. Should I buy regular size water bottles as well or are the little bottles okay?

Answer:
I would do 84 hamburgers and 42 hotdogs. Most people will only have 1 hamburger, but there will be some guys who will eat 2 or so, sometimes 3! I do bbqs are my office for 50 people twice a summer and I alwasy double the burgers, and single the hotdogs. If there is any left over... if wont be by the end of the work day :) I would assume the same with a home bbq... if you guys are going to be there for the whole day some people will want another "snack" later on. I would get a lot more pop then that, and go with the canned version. Get atleast 8 cases of 12 with would be 96 pops, enough for at least 2 each, you can include the water in this number. Again if you have left overs, you can easily store canned pop then opened bottles which will loose thier fizz quickly. If you serve with other stuff such as salads and chips... everyone will be very full and have had a great time. My modo is I want everyone to be full and happy... no one is happy when they are still hungry and their is no food and drinks left :)

You're having a BBQ and you want to buy soda? When having a BBQ it's only fitting to have beer - lots of it. Those two go together like peanut butter and jam...
Well, first off, I would get more soda that that. Maybe 4 of each. Unless, you are having alcohol as well, then you could probably cut back to 3 of each flavor. That should be plenty of water. As for the hot dogs and hamburgers, that depends on the age of people coming. I would say that I would make at least 35 hamburgers (some people will eat two) and probably at least 20 hot dogs. And you wouldn't necessarily have to cook them all at once. Hope this helps!!

Any time I have a cookout I always make a little extra. I would do 30-35 hamburgers and about 20-25 hotdogs. You'll need at least two times the sodas, the waters should be okay. Potato salad or macaroni salad will help to fill your guests. Make sure to have all the condiments and dressings-mayo,mustard,ketchup,pickle,on… Maybe a some chili or sauerkraut for the dogs. Also for side items you could have baked beans, coleslaw, raw veggies and dip, deviled eggs, etc. If your having dessert, brownies, cookies, cupcakes. Try prepping things ahead a day or two, it will help save time so that you can visit with your guests! Good Luck and Have Fun!

I would plan 1 1/2 burgers and 1 1/2 hot dogs per person. So, 63 of each. I would opt for cans of soda rather than 2Liter bottles. Put the cans on ice along with the bottles of water, and you will not be throwing away left overs. I would have Coke, Sprite and a diet choice (or similar). Sometimes, depending on the age of the guests, people will put down their drinks and they get lost. Then they go open another drink. If you have kids, this happens more often. If there will be kids at the party, I would do the small water bottles. If a mix of adults and kids, then I would offer some larges bottles of water in the mix. Have a great party!

You don't say if these are adults, teenagers, or children; that makes a difference. Adults will eat at least 1 burger each, teens will eat 2, children prefer hotdogs. Buy 100 patties & 50 wieners, you can freeze what's leftover. Remember the cheese & buns. The case of 48 water bottles is enough, I wouldn't buy more; but get bags of ice-cubes. 12 cans of pop is about 4 litres, so for everyone to get 1 drink takes 16 litres, you have 12.
Allow 2 burgers and 2 hot dogs per person. Some guys will eat 3 or 4 of each. Two Liter sodas serve 8 people a single 8 ounce glass so I would think about doubling that. I'd like to know how little your water bottles are. My sister in-law can drink 4 or 5 of the larger bottles a day. Are you going to serve other drinks such as ice tea, lemonade or beer?

1.5 times the number of guests for the burgers and hot dogs. Go for individual sized drinks and eliminate the need for plastic cups and reduce the ice consumption. Regular sized water better than baby size. At least two drinks per person.
