Short film ideas with no people?

I am catering a small indy film with 6 to 8 people on set a day. Any ideas of good transportable foods?

  • I would like ideas of foods that are safe and easy to transport without having to serve sandwiches every day to them. I have about 20 days of filming to cover and I have lasagna for a read through since I will have access to an oven, also steak kabobs another big day. Need ideas for days with anywhere from 6 to 8 people those days. What is popular and can be made ahead of time.

  • Answer:

fruit and veggie trays always a big craft services hit. Anything that can be grilled - great flavor, grill ahead, warm on site Salads with grilled chicken...also easy and can be cold. You can also usually arrange for local restaraunts to prepare and pick-up to offer some variety if your budget allows (think chinese, mexican, italian, always hits)

how about a variety of soups and salads (with optional bread sticks). maybe get a 2 good soups (one vegetable, perhaps a cream of something (broccoli, asparagus, mushroom) or tomato. another more meaty, perhaps a beef stew or a italian wedding soup. maybe even a seafood bisque of some kind if you're feeling up to it). as for salads you can either make a regular green or maybe spinach salad with another salad that can be made into sandwiches (either tuna, egg or seafood). have some good bread that would either make great sandwiches or go well with the soups and you're golden. meatloaf. with some mashed potatoes and maybe a choice of 2 vegetables (i'd say carrots and greenbeans) pierogis are always nice with some sour cream, a little saurkraut and fried onions - serve with kielbasa if you feel like it. baked chicken (i would say fried, but by the time people eat, it might not be as good an crunchy). up to you to decide flavor (e.g. lemon pepper, bbq, roasted, etc.)

How about when you cook your kabobs set some meat aside for some wraps. Buy some flour tortillas, then thinly slice your left over meat Julienne some carrots, celery then spread some cream cheese inside the tortilla and add your meat. Make sure you get the cream cheese on the edges. Tightly wrap the tortilla and then slice into sections. Make about 20 or 25 of these chill to serve next day and you could add a dipping sauce add a side dish like maybe some chilled Tabuli ( Wheat Bulgar) . Also try Tostadas shrimp or ham you can buy the premade tostadas and garnish with whatever you like adding avocado, shredded lettuce, tomato, onions, don't forget hot sauce or sour cream. That's two meals. Easy to prepare and everybody will love it.

I'd start planning a rotation of certain types of food. Since you already have the kabobs and lasagna planned, maybe something like: Day 1 - Sandwiches or Cold Cuts tray Day 2 - Grilled Item Day 3 - Assortment of Salads Day 4 - Pasta item Day 5 - Soup, Chile, Gumbo, Chowders with assortment of breads Day 6 - Back to sandwiches Day 7 - Another Grilled item Day 8 - Salads Day 9 - Pasta Day 10 - Soup type and so on For Sandwiches, one time could be an assortment of cold cuts and breads where each could make their own, another day you could do premade sandwiches For Salads, always have a green salad, a meat salad, and a fruit salad. For Pasta, the lasagna, a cold tortelline and pesto salad, and maybe a chicken, artichoke, tomato and feta salad. For Soups, you can do one or two and put in thermos for serving. Chicken Noodle and a Corn Chowder, a mexican chicken lime and a chile, or Gumbo and Crab Bisque. Round out the meal with breads, crackers, fruit, and brownies or cookies.
