How do I host a large party at my small house?

    Definitely buffet-style service for food. As to accommodating all the people; If you can afford it, contact a local restaurant supply house and find out about a tent rental as well as tables and chairs? Unless it's a sharp drop in the lawn, you should be able to set something up back there. If you can't afford it, ask your friends and neighbours about borrowing their yard furniture; tables, chairs, lawn awnings or tents, etc? Sounds wacky, but will work and most people are usually helpful when asked. You could also try your local fire-hall or church to ask if they have folding tables and chairs you can borrow or rent for a small donation. DEFINITELY check your local dollar store for inexpensive plastic table cloths, plastic plates/cutlery, serving dishes, paper napkins, etc. Good luck! PS - if you can afford it, rent one or two porta-potties!

"Stagger" the time on the invitations. Invite 1/3 of the guests at 7:00, 1/3 at 8:00, 1/3 at 9:00. Maybe you should wait for July and make it an outdoor affair?

If you have a backyard, utilize it.. have everyone show up at the back (if you have a way to get to your backyard) instead of the front door so you dont have to keep on opening it up. Place the food somehow near your back door, that way, if you need to replenish your food, it will be easy for you to go into the house and get it.

Please reconsider. 50-60 people in a 2,000 square foot house with a questionable yard sounds like absolute misery for your guests, who will feel obligated to come out of respect for your family. I was recently at a 25-30 guest party in a 1,600 square foot townhouse. It was so uncomfortable that most people stayed 20-30 minutes to be polite, and then left as soon as they could gracefully escape. Relocate this to a restaurant, park or beach where your guests will be able to breath, sit down, and carry on reasonable conversations if you want a party that is memorable in a GOOD way.

Pray that it is nice outside and use a tarp/tent or a screen house and utilize the outdoors as well as the indoors. Not sure how large a party or how small a house. Also how fancy a party? You could always use a bunch of pillows on the floor and serve chinese food or something along those lines. Might make for more room and more acceptance of sitting anywhere and everywhere!?

an open house is always good that way people can come and go as they please it usually spreads things out fairly well also think about utilizing your garage clean it up rent some tables and chairs use table clothes sheets or tarps to cover some of your junk if necessary
