I need some helpful LEGAL fundraiser ideas.

I need ideas for table centres for an oldies dinner/dance Fundraiser?

  • We are holding a dinner/dance fundraiser for my girlfriend Debbie who has been suffering from MS since 1998. We have Rock'n'Ray Micheals from CKOC as our amazing DJ so naturally our theme is the oldies. I need some ideas for table centres-unique to the 50's or something to do with legs as our goal is to get her out of her wheelchair and up walking again. We are raising funds to send her to Costa Rica for Liberation Treatment Surgerg which has had amazing results. If anyone could help me with this, that would be wonderful. Have a great day.

I would get some old vinyl records...big, small..doesn't make a difference...and make "vinyl record bowls" by heating them in the oven...here's how to to that: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/396490/vinyl_creations_how_to_make_a_record_bowl/ (there's other instructions when you google it, too, if this video isn't working for you). Then you can fill the bowls with popcorn....put a clean napkin in them....make sure the records are clean first. Other bowls can be the bottom to hold helium balloons in red and white (Coca Cola colors)...weight them down and fill bowl with metallic red shredded paper. Sprinkle table with confetti musical notes. You can also add additional "confetti" by cutting out faces of people from the 50's with a paper punch that's large enough to circle the face>>>sprinkle those out on the table for conversation piece. You can use pics of people attending that everyone knows or famous stars of the 50's. If you have a lot of tables, alternate colors of tablecloths using red ones and white ones. I'd keep it a 50's theme and hang signs like "Sock Hop" up....can display old album covers around the area.

What I would do is this: Get a stand (made out of wood, one like on the back of a photo frame, or metal, or make your own out of wire or metal and curl the ends so that it stands, I'd go with silver spray painted red and sprayed with glitter.). Have on it a record. Get a doll (Just a small, inexpensive plastic one will do.) And take its legs off. Get it to wear some doll heels or red tights and gold heels, and position it's legs as if it is dancing the can can. Finish with some nice coloured flowers (real or fake) coming out of various places. You could always use a vase instead and glue. My other idea was a 3D box, made to look like a door (or stage with red curtain if you have the time.), with a leg coming out the side. (A dolls leg, once again, will do fine.) Coming out like in the movies, peeking out. Have an old record stuck to the back corner and coming up over the top. Finish by sticking some flowers inside and have them poking out the top. (Maybe try reds and golds, too.) Hope this helps, and good luck!

That is a tough one. My first thought is to find some old 45 RPM records and some Barbie type dolls. Now you have to be a little crafty but you will need to make poodle skirts for the dolls. Put the dolls on stands, or pose them to sit or lay on the 45's. Be sure the hair is in a ponytail. Use some Ken and Skipper dolls to change it up a bit, but it might be a little hard to find or make the right clothing for Ken.

Ideas for the leg might be the records stacked a few high, different angles, with a 50's couple dancing on top. Saw it on a website. http://www.shindigz.com/party/Sock-Hop-Metal-Centerpiece.cfm First thing I thought of too was the 45's. Those are pretty easy to get at most thrift stores. You can also make some fake ones incredibly easily. Another idea is to get the old style glass milkshake glass, fill them with colorful candy, put some cotton balls on the top, a red candy for the cherry and put a straw in it. You can decorate the tables with black tablecloth and several different bright colored music notes. That screams the 50's. You could put a glass bottle of Coke, a pair of 1950's sunglasses, any type of Jukebox (they have some of the Cutout, standup ones at Party City and most party stores, anything that resembles the letter on a Letterman's Jacket. You can have so much fun with this party! Best of Luck to your friend. She will be in my prayers!
