• Im looking to actually start making a living more self. Ive worked in luxury suites at a hockey arena for a couple years, and have made contacts who are somewhat loaded.... I would like to perhaps become a party planner cause im incredibly social, and love organizing get-togethers and parties....any suggestions on how to get myself started?

I told her to put together a portfolio of parties she's already done (planning your own wedding is a big plus, also retirement parties, birthday parties, bachelor/ette parties, showers, etc) complete with pictures. Then bring that around to companies, hotels, relatives, etc. Sounds like you already have contacts...so you're one step ahead of the game. Keep in mind that if you want to be legal, you should get a tax ID number and a legal company name for yourself. Then you can make use of tax write-offs like cell phones, party supplies, gasoline, etc. Plus, if you're not getting paid under the table...your employers will be able to give you a check - which THEY'LL be able to write off on their own taxes as a business expense. Also, you might want to take business cards to florists, bakeries and catering companies. Don't forget to advertise in the classifieds online and newspaper, and phone book. I think becoming a legal business is a great first step though. Go for it!!!!
