What Should I do with my newt eggs?

I need help with newt eggs/larvae!?

  • My newt had eggs and only TWO are actually forming into newts. The rest look the same as when the mother first laid them. They don't have any fungus and are in the same container as the two that are forming. The two were laid a day or two before some of them, but some were laid before the two and are not forming. I expected some duds, but not this many! What do I do? What did I do wrong?

  • Answer:

If the animals are young there are fewer eggs. You didn't do anything wrong very few newt keepers get to this point. The male might just not gotten around to fertilizing them. Move the plants with the eggs on them into a new tank or the mothers will eat them. My baby newts are about a month old now. They will hatch in a week or two then they love live food. I didn't get live food for ours right away because it is so hard to get live food here. So I fed freeze dried brine shrimp. I finally got some brine shrimp eggs to hatch live food. They love it.
