How can I tame my sugar glider?

How can I get my sugar glider to bond with me when it hates me? :(?

  • I've had it for a week now and it still crabs at merely the SIGHT of me. I have one male, who's about 9 weeks old now, and bites me every chance he gets. I put my used shirt in his cage and I wear the pouch (any tips on how to get him IN the pouch, nicely?) when I get home from school. I've also tried gaining his trust by holding out food, trying to get him to come to me. He just stares at me and crabs until I go away. For the first to days I did leave him alone in the cage. I talk to him frequently, and I've read a lot about how to bond but he doesn't seem to be getting any better. Since it's just been a week and he's young I figure it'll get better at some point, but any tips to speed up the process? He seems to be unusually aggresive and stubborn compared to the other sugar gliders I've heard stories about...

  • Answer:

Work out or sweat a lot in a t-shirt and hang it in the cage for a week. This will help him get used to your smell. Keep getting him out daily and eventually he will get used to you. Sugar gliders really shouldn't be kept alone, so you should consider getting another one. Being alone could be stressing him out and making him less open to you.
