What are the steps on how to work abroad as a nurse?

I Want To Train To Be A Veterinary Nurse..? ^^?

  • Thank you for taking the time to read this, its a little long so I apologise in advance... I'm 20 years old and I live in Ayrshire, Scotland. I want to train to be a Veterinary Nurse, I love everything about animals and have a week's work experience in a veterinary practice and my own lifetime of caring for my own animals. I'm fine with blood and sick and everything so I've got the stomach for it :) However, I really don't know how to get started, first steps are always the hardest. Should I contact local practices and see if there's anyone willing to train me? I have posted an advertisement on Gumtree stating that I want to train but I've had no replies as yet. I have also looked online at colleges and universities in my area and not one of them offers any Veterinary Nursing courses or courses with placement opportunities, the nearest is in Edinburgh which is a huge commute and I do not have the capital to uproot by myself and move. If anyone could offer any advice on what I should do next, I'd be more than grateful. Trying to find opportunities nowadays is rather difficult. Please no mean or hurtful answers, thank you

  • Answer:

Get some voluntary experience working in a veterinary practice, doing anything, it doesn't matter what they have you do. Apply to University to do some sort of Veterinary course. Don't just look in your local area. If you really, really want this, then you'll have to put some effort in to get it. See if you can get a grant or a bursary, or something like that. Or if you can't afford to uproot by yourself, see if anyone will go with you.

Sorry but at 20 you should have the savvy to go to the practice where you did the experience, and ask the Vets how do you go about getting trained. They are the experts not us. UK

Veterinary nursing is now managed by the royal college of veterinary surgeons. Look at RCVS.org or some. Arisnt and you'll find good information and contacts. They will tell you where to go for a practice where you can train properly and get qualified. But just be aware loving animals is not the key attribute. You have to be practical as sometimes you are involved in putting an anal to sleep. Usually for medical reasons but sometimes as it may be unwanted. So it is not always what it might seem. But go for it. You may have to move though.
