Is it normal for guinea pigs to whine nonstop?

He never stops and is afraid of everything. Repeat: is that normal/ok?

Answer:
For a guinea pig to be afraid of everything and whine nonstop is not normal. If this is a new behavior, it may be due to an illness or to changes in surroundings or its routine that might have upset your pet. Once you rule out medical problems, there are things you can do to help the guinea pig feel more secure. 1. Make sure your guinea pig has a place to hide in his cage. Many pet shops sell inexpensive plastic igloos that work well for this purpose. A large curved piece of PVC pipe from the hardware store can work, too. 2. Some guinea pigs like living close to the ground. If your cage is up high on a table, try setting it on the floor in a quiet place that isn't a high traffic area. Note that you should only do this if there are no other pets in the home that could harm or frighten the guinea pig. 3. Make sure your guinea pig has food and water every day at the same time each day, and that vitamins are included in the food, especially vitamin C. 4. Most guinea pigs like interacting with people, so be sure to spend time with your pet. If he is a new pet and is fearful of you, you can build his confidence by sitting by the cage and visiting with him a couple of times each day. You should soon notice that he isn't as afraid. 5. Make sure that if you have children in your home that the guinea pig isn't being teased or hamed by objects stuck through the bars. Good luck with your pet!

I know how you feel, I used to have a guinea-pig and it didn't stop whining, but try giving it some lettuce or a treat. It will calm it down a little bit.

He probably just wants more attention

You have to remove them from the "warm dark place" to make them stop whining. Kinda like pre-schoolers.

yes they do that. They run and are skittish but that will get a bit better but they constantly whimper and whine.

no it is not normal - you should take him to a vet for a check and yes guinea pigs are anxious scared little animals and you need to work hard by being very gentle to help him get less anxious - do not grab him or hold him with force - try and be very slow and gentle and gradually tame him to you

He may actually be in pain. Make sure you are giving him a vitamin C supplement every day (a vitamin C deficiency causes them to get scurvey and can kill them...it also causes sensitivity to touch) If he doesn't improve, take him to a vet to get checked out.
