Is it possible to own a pet bat?

Is it legal to have a bat for a pet in Illinois and if so do you need a license?

Since bats are known rabies vector animals, it is NOT legal to have one as a pet. As a matter of fact, it is highly recommended that you NEVER touch one. Should you touch a bat, the bat will have to be tested for rabies. The only test for rabies involves brain tissue, therefore ending the bat's life. If the bat has rabies, then everyone in your family, and anyone your family came in contact with will require immediate vaccines for rabies. You should enquire with the CDC, Center for Disease control.

Well, you could probably just get bat poo & bat houses & use that to attract them, then capture them & put them in a huge cage & keep them as pets, though I don't see why you would want to:/
