What is the difference between an (open interval) and a [closed interval]?

What is the difference between an open front and a closed front on a horse blanket??

  • I am about to buy a sheet for my horse, but I don't know the difference between an open front and a closed front. Any help??

  • Answer:

An open front blanket is a blanket that has either velcros or buckles in the front so it can be opened. A closed front has no buckles and the front of the blanket on the chest cannot be opened. It has to be put on over the head. A closed front is your better choice unless your horse is head shy and doesn't like things put over his head but most horses accept it easily. The closed front blanket is all I use for my horses. Hope this helps.

open front means that the shoulder flaps meet in the middle of the chest with a strap and buckle. closed front do the same except they have a under flap that covers the gap between and also stops the strap or buckle from rubbing on the horses chest.

like the others have said, an open front has buckle closures and a closed front has to be slipped over the head. from experience as both a horse owner and working in a tack shop, closed fronts fit better on horses with borader chests (qhs, paints, appys, etc) whereas open fronts are made for more narrow breeds (arabs, thoroughbreds, morgans, etc.)
