Where can I buy wild rabbit food?

The best for this wild rabbit?

  • A few weeks ago I rescued a little wild bunny. One of our barn cats had it by the neck and I pried it from his teeth. The little rabbit has a made a full recovery and has grown quit a bit although he is still tiny. Any ways he has been living in a cage at the barn and I would like to bring him home soon. At the moment I have a 10g and 29g aquarium sitting around doing nothing. I know aquariums are not good because ammonia can build up so I was contemplating using it as a temporary housing that I would clean 3 times a day that way I can save my money for a nice cage with levels and room to play instead of just buying the first thing I come across that would most likely be just big enough to move around but not by much. Since he is wild and not quit use to humans yet I was going to buy him one of those big plastic balls so he can run "loose" around the house but I can find it with out him wedging him self some where I can't get to it. ( I say it because even though I know how to identify gender I haven't yet as it is still afraid of people and I hate to stress it out) As for bedding I was thinking of just using some sort of wood shavings until I get an actual cage and then switching to something better and less messy. I already have it on a diet of premium rabbit food mixed with premium guinea pig food and then I have a flavored salt wheel in it's cage. Water would be in one of those hanging bottles with the flip top for easy filling. As for housing I was going to get one of those igloo things for now and then when I get the cage maybe pick some thing out that fits the cage. Is there any thing I'm missing? This rabbit is a little lion head so he won't get much bigger then he already is he will easily fit in my hands. Any recommendations for cages that are not to expensive, although I might just build my own since I can make it any size and shape I want.

  • Answer:

FYI, those plastic balls are not safe for rabbits wild or domesticated.. Yes fish tanks are not good to house rabbits.. Cage size the bigger the better.... Rabbits do not need those salt blocks. At this point bunny should be eating pellets and hay unlimited amounts. This is it. Baby rabbits may start receiving greens very gradually at the age of about two months. Add one item at a time, in small amounts, and if you see no intestinal upset, add another... Why are you giving a rabbit GP pellets... Note rabbits are not rodents, they belong to there own family called the lagomorph.. Next time you find a wild rabbit let it go...
