Adutch rabbit and a mini lop, both males?
-
I'm thinking of getting a mini lop to keep my male dutch rabbit company. The dutch that I own is incredibly sweet, silly and friendly and he loves new things. He absolutely loves my male dog (even though the dog is kind of scared of him... it's a cavalier so that isn't surprising). This dutch is desexed. I have heard that lops are also very silly and friendly. i do not want a female lop because from past experience, they can be very moody even if you desex them. Do you think it would work if Ihad my dutch and a lop rabbit in the same cage? Maybe they don't even have to be in the same cage, but I would prefer it. Could they get along? Thankyou very much :)

Answer:
It can be done I have 2 male bonded rabbits. But both of my rabbits are incredibly laid back and get along well with almost all other rabbits. And not all females are mean when fixed. My female was a nightmare even after she was spayed. Yet my friend has 6 females and they are all extremely sweet and playful. Do not put another rabbit in the same cage as your current rabbit until the new rabbit is neutered and at least a month after (his hormones will be going insane after being neutered and it can cause a lot of fights). Follow proper introduction and bonding processes and you may be able to eventually bond them. Male/Female bonds are easier. Same sex pairs tend to get a little territorial at first. It depends. You will have to make sure both males are neutered though....if they are, they could stay in the same cage. But it also depends on their personalities. Some rabbits don't get along with other rabbits, period. In my personal expiriance, the best combination is a female and a male (of course both fixed). I don't think the breed matters.

well it totally depends on the rabbits personality. male + female rabbits are easiest / best to bond. a male + male bond isn't very successful but it CAN happen. I've seen lots of nice female rabbits and lots of mean male rabbits - it all depends on the rabbits personality. i have a lop rabbit (profile) and he is very nice. but not ALL lop eared rabbits are nice. before, when i was looking at rabbits i wanted to adopt i saw this cute lop rabbit but he was very shy and skittish. i also saw a male rabbit (lion head) and he was extremely skittish too. i saw a female rabbit (english spot / mini rex mix) and she was INCREDIBLY friendly. i saw a bunch of other rabbits too but you know i just said these specific ones since you think that most female rabbits are moody even when spayed.
