Animal Cruelty Investigator?

What do I need to do to become an animal cruelty investigator? Please help!!!?

  • I just graduated high school and I'm ready to begin the next phase in my life (college). I want to become an animal cruelty investigator but I don't know what to do and where to begin. In addition I know requirments vary depending where you live,I live in florida. Also Does community service at local animal shelters help in anyway? Please help! Serious awnsers only. Thanks :)

  • Answer:

Start volunteering at local animal shelters and rescues, yes this helps as the investigator position is HIGHLY competitive and is often not even advertised as they will recruit internally! Look around at local colleges, do a course in animal care and management, this will bulk up your resume and help in any future placements. Like I said it's highly competitive and there may be hundreds of applications for just one position so you've really got to step up. A lot of the animal cruelty frontline people even have military or police backgrounds, someone who was previously trained up as police officer is going to be able to better handle difficult people situations when it comes to rescuing and seizing animals from bad situations.

I would contact your local animal control department and ask them what they require for that position. There might be some state requirements so you can look up you state gov. website and check there as well.
